The Harz is a great destination for families. You can find some fantastic activities, great family orientated Hotels, pensions and Ferienwohnungen (Holiday Flats). Germany itself is child friendly and you will definitely find this in Harz. Restaurants offer kids menus where the Pirate Plate is most popular, the child gets a plate, fork and knife and steals off the parents. Don't worry, you can order from a kids menu as well. |
| Very popular with kids and adults are the summer bob sleighs. If you missed the snow, this is an excellent way to experience speed and great fun. St Andreasberg has a 550m long ride. Others across Harz in Schierke (near the Brocken), Thale, which also has outdoor playing grounds, a tree top adventure park as well as cable cars and chair lifts. In Wippra you can also find a climbing rock, and in Straussberg where you can also visit Monkey world, and the adventure park. |

In the summer you can relax by the moutain lakes or the lidos which in Germany are popular, clean and well maintained. You can take to the water in a boat or canoe or just soak up the summer rays. Why not spend some time in one of the great Leisure centers (Erlebnisbad) across Harz. They have some great facilities, waterslides, wave machines, Jacuzzis, saunas and steam rooms. Also why not try a Hot Spring or Therme Spring - which is relaxing and healthy at the same time. |
| If you need to take a break from the sun than a trip to the mines will entertain the kids. There are many within Harz but the Rammelsberg mine in Goslar is high on the list, plus the Sondershausen mine where you can do mountain biking in the caves. If riding underground is not for you than take advantage of some of the best laid out cycle paths in Europe. Bikes can be easily rented, and its no surprise that the Dutch love the Harz. |
