Grenzkrug Youth Hostel and DDR Museum
This newly opened youth hostel based in Klettenberg which is 3 kilometres from Bad Sachsa is a welcome addition to the region of Harz. What used to be a former soviet style concrete barracks has been lovingly turned into a very nice hostel and museum dedicated to the former DDR. What is incredible about this hostel is that the work was carried out by local people who gave their time and money voluntary to make this work. Large parts of the museum are made up of collections which were donated not just by local people but from people across Germany. The hostel has 2, 4, and 6 bed rooms and with prices at 7.50euro per night it makes excellent value. If you need bed linen or breakfast there are additional charges.
