By Train
Altenau has got no train station.
You can travel to Bad Harzburg, Clausthal Zellerfeld
or to any other nearby town and take a bus.

By Road
Altenau is in the Oberharz.
In winter you need definitely winter tyres for the car.
The roads leading to Altenau are modern,
in good condition and offer fantastic views.
Altenau is on the B498, which connects Goslar in the north and the B242.
B-roads called Bundesstrassen are equivalent to the A-roads in the UK
From north and south
A 7 Hanover - Kassel, exit 67 Seesen, then continue on the B 243
until exit Clausthal-Zellerfels/Bad Grund.
From there you follow the B 243 until the B 498 Altenau is signposted.
From west
If you come from the west (Netherlands) you need to get on to the A7,
then direction Hannover. Take exit 67 and follow above directions.
From east (Leipzig)
Take the new motorway A38 to exit Windehausen.
Then on the B4 go about 40 km direction Nordhausen,
Braunlage. Past Braunlage until you get to the sign B 498 Altenau.
Airport
Nearest Airport is Hannover.
From there you can take the Motorway A7 to Altenau.
Follow directions from the North.
